Raising Someone Up

Dimension: All

It is minutes before the celebration of life memorial for Senator Ted Kennedy. As a African American and a Catholic I grew up in the age of the Kennedys and the three brothers were---well, wouldn't use the word, saints--but certainly icons. And very well respected ones at that. There were legends as they lived and legends in their passing. Senator Ted Kennedy no less than his other brothers.

Senator Ted Kennedy is a prime example of using privilege as a life skill. Whether it was civil rights, voting rights, gender, sexual orientation, or health care rights, Ted Kennedy worked from his up position to support the downs.

When I was in the convent, when there was work with not enough or no workers or a cause that needed support, the nuns would say, "If God wants the work done He will raise someone up to do it." I have no doubt God wants the work of providing universal healthcare completed. As the Senator is laid to rest we desperately need someone raised up to make sure it happens.

  1. I agree, the Kennedy's are leaders and provide positive inspiration to all that they touch. It's so sad to see Ted go; a new Kennedy generation will take over and make their mark in their own special way. We can only wait to see what they do.
